Augers are used to remove soil from the ground. They can be used to draw out disturbed soil samples or to bore a hole for undisturbed core sampling. Augered soil samples are used for visual profiling and to analyze soil grain properties such as composition, distribution, Atterberg limits and water content. There are three auger connection types available: one-piece augers, quick connect augers and threaded augers. Each auger bucket comes in multiple sizes and is designed for a specific purpose or soil type, including stony soil, clay, sand and mud.
