The Leica Digicat 550i Service Cable Locator Electrician's Bundle 6006293 accurately detects live electrical cables and copper pipes underground (up to 10' deep) with a 50 or 60 Hz frequency. The Digicat provides both audio and visual confirmation on the location and direction of the buried utilities. Five operating modes make it easy to operate your utility locator. Dust and waterproof protection maintains the Digicat’s precision. Use the hazard alert, sonde detection, and pinpoint assist features to safely find your pipe or cable.
Audio and Visual Confirmation
The Digicat 550i underground pipe finder gives off a loud sound when you are near the pipe or cable you are searching for. You can also visually monitor the strength of the electrical signal on the large LCD display. This display features a battery indicator, depth indicator, and light sensor. The light sensor senses the amount of light around your locator at all times and turns on the display’s back light in dark conditions.
5 Operating Modes
A default power mode locates power signals that pose a risk to your excavation site in a range of 50 to 60 Hz. The selectable radio mode tracks signals between 15 and 60 kHz from distant radio transmitters. The transmitter modes, 8 kHz and 33 kHz, locate signals released by the Digitex 100t signal transmitter. An automatic mode locates power or radio signals.
Safe Positioning
The Leica Digicat 550i has an IP rating of 54 for locking out dust and moisture. A special hazard alert warns you when a buried utility is in close proximity to the surface. Enhanced sonde detection provides a numeric readout on the display indicating the exact location of a placed sonde, which helps trace plastic pipes or cables. The pinpoint assist feature keeps the highest peak reading on the display’s signal strength indicator for quick reference.
Accessories
To locate underground pipes or cables that do not have a live, electrical current, use your Digicat with the Digitex 100t Signal Transmitter. The Digitex induces a signal into the pipe or cable via an alligator clamp, signal clamp, or antenna, and then Digicat detects this signal from the surface.
For pipes or cables made of a material other than metal, use the Digitex signal transmitter with the Digitrace Service Tracer (sold separately) to help your Digicat cable finder locate them. The Digitrace offers a fiberglass rod that can be guided along the utility underground while the connected Digitex sends a signal through the rod that the Digicat can also detect from the surface. You can also use the Digimouse dual-frequency sonde. It acts as a frequency transmitter over a range of 16.4' (5 m) and can be attached to a variety equipment, such as drain rods, boring tools and inspection cameras.
Digicat Choices
The Leica 550-model Digicat is available in the i-Series, with 2 transmitter mode frequencies (8 kHz and 33 kHz), and the xf-Series, with 4 transmitter mode frequencies (8 kHz, 33 kHz, 512 Hz and 640 Hz). The additional tracing modes allow you to locate underground utilities over greater distances and easily find sewer-camera inspection systems. The 550xf utility locator also has the Mode lock feature. The locator re-starts in the last mode used, saving you time and effort.
The Digicats also come in your choice of bundle – the pipe and cable locator is offered together with its most popular accessories. You can choose the Digicat only, the Basic Bundle (Digicat locator and Digitex 100t Signal Generator), the Basic Bundle with Carry Bag, the Electrician's Bundle (includes a signal clamp), and the Plumber's Bundle, which comes with the Digimouse Dual-Frequency Sonde.
